Chief Executive Officer

Melanie C. Thompson is the Chief Executive Officer for Hinesville Housing Authority. Melanie is responsible for managing the agency’s Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) properties to maintain compliance in regards to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) policies, to establish working relationships with the tenants, city/county government, and the general public and community services agencies. She has several years of experience in the affordable housing industry and her commitment and passion will assist in accomplishing the mission of Hinesville Housing Authority and Liberty County. Recently, she received a certification as a Certificated Occupancy Specialist to provide expanded services for the authority’s business operations.

Her strong background in consumer services allowed her to successfully transition to a career at the Housing Authority of Savannah as a Section 8 Case Manager. During her employment at the Housing Authority of Savannah, Melanie was responsible for case managing 500 residents and landlords. While working in the Trio/Access programs at Savannah State University, Melanie worked with first-generation middle school and high students preparing them for secondary education. Her diverse work history prepared her to fully understand with compassion and sincere concern about issues associated with affordable housing. Additionally, as a Regional Resource Development and Resident Services Manager for Mercy Housing, Inc, Melanie supervised the resident services staff, was a grant administrator, and secured funding for the Southeast region which included properties in North and South Carolina as well as Georgia. Also, she has taught the subjects of Learning Frameworks, Freshman Experience, Sociology, Critical Thinking and Career Exploration at Virginia College and Savannah State University.

Melanie is a native of Savannah. She holds a master’s degree in Adult Education with a concentration in Adult Literacy/Community Leadership from Armstrong Atlantic State University. She also graduated cum laude from Savannah State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in Middle School Education. She lives in Savannah, GA.
